LEARN IDEAS

Many young and older learners are still developing their sensitivity to different facial expressions.

It isn't obvious to everyone how to read or communicate emotion with a face.

By engaging learners with fa_ce images, you can work on building their sensitivity to the nuances of facial expressions.

DRAMA teachers
- start a guessing game where students label fa_ce pictures with written expression words (or even speech bubbles)
- ask students to mimic expressions they see on the images using their own facial muscles

VISUAL ARTS teachers:
- invite students to explore their environments with fresh eyes by asking them to take their own face pictures
- use fa_ce images to demonstrate cropping and framing in photography
- with fa_ce images, introduce portraiture in a whole new light

LANGUAGE ARTS teachers:
- create a picture book by adding text alongside the images. This can be pushed towards a collaborative class effort where each student contributes a page or two.

GEOGRAPHY teachers:
- mapping skills and spatial skills can be exercised by asking students to collect their own fa_ce pictures and place them on a map (maybe even a map that they have created)
